The M270 MLRS is Lockheed Martin's tracked, 12-rocket (two six-round pods) multiple launch rocket system; with twice the firing capacity of HIMARS it takes on the heavy counter-battery and deep-fires role. The current M270A2 variant, with its Common Fire Control System (CFCS), can fire guided GMLRS (84+ km), ER-GMLRS (150 km), ATACMS (300 km) and the new PrSM (500+ km) munitions. Proven in Ukraine with devastating effect against bridges, depots, radars and artillery positions, it remains in active service with the U.S. and many NATO nations.

Although the M270 is an extremely powerful firepower platform, its heavy tracked chassis makes it less agile than HIMARS and difficult to move by air; its real 'range/effect' depends largely on the munition loaded (the platform itself is not a rocket). Its survivability score is kept low because of its large thermal/acoustic signature and poor strategic mobility in a modern ISR/drone environment — Ukraine suffered its first M270 loss in 2025.
