The BTR-82A is a Russian 8x8 wheeled armored personnel carrier with a stabilized 30 mm autocannon; cheap, amphibious and produced in quantity, it is the wheeled workhorse that moves and supports infantry.

The BTR-82A upgrades the BTR-80 family with a two-axis stabilized 30 mm 2A72 cannon, a ~300 hp engine and better optics, while keeping the cheap, amphibious 8x8 layout. Its protection is light — vulnerable to ATGMs, mines and top-attack munitions — so it is a mobility/fire-support carrier, not a frontline fighting vehicle.
