The Kawasaki P-1 is Japan's four-jet maritime patrol and anti-submarine aircraft — the world's only purpose-built four-engine jet MPA — using an AESA radar and fly-by-light controls to sweep wide ocean areas for submarines.

Built from scratch (unlike the airliner-derived P-8), the P-1 uses four jets for speed and survivability margin and fly-by-light controls resistant to electromagnetic interference. It trails the P-8 on operator base, logistics and combat-proven integration, and has faced engine/availability issues, but its sensors are first-rate. It hunts in open waters, not contested airspace.
