Quickstrike-ER turns a conventional bottom-influence sea mine into a stand-off area-denial weapon by adding JDAM-ER-type GPS/INS guidance and a deploying wing kit. Bombers such as the B-52H can glide it ~40 nautical miles from 35,000 ft (up to ~50 nm stand-off), laying a precise minefield in a single pass without entering enemy air defense. An acoustic/magnetic/seismic target-detection device (TDD) discriminates a passing ship or submarine and triggers selectively; it reached IOC in FY2024.

QS-ER is a 'smart stand-off bomb kit', not a true anti-ship missile — it cannot chase a moving target, only waits passively in the corridor where it was pre-laid. Its edge is keeping the carrier outside enemy SAM coverage and establishing a coordinate-precise minefield in one pass. Being a shallow-water / bottom mine limits it in deep-ocean denial.
