The MH-60R 'Romeo' Seahawk is the US Navy's primary ship-launched anti-submarine and anti-surface helicopter; dipping sonar + sonobuoys + torpedoes extend a warship's sonar reach by tens of kilometers — the fleet's hunter-killer backbone.

The Romeo turns any surface combatant into a sub-hunter, prosecuting contacts far beyond the ship's own sonar with the AQS-22 ALFS dipping sonar and Mk 54 torpedoes. Radar (APS-153), EO/IR and Hellfire add an anti-surface punch. As a low, slow helicopter it is vulnerable to short-range air defenses, so it works under the protection of its task group.
