The MBDA Meteor is a European ramjet-powered beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile; its throttleable engine keeps thrust to the endgame, producing a 'no-escape zone' several times larger than rocket-powered rivals — widely regarded as the most lethal BVR missile in service.

Where a solid-rocket missile burns out early and coasts, the Meteor's air-breathing ramjet can modulate thrust and keep maneuvering energy at long range, so a target has far less room to outrun it. It is integrated on Eurofighter, Rafale and Gripen, with F-35 integration in progress. Its rivals are the long-reach R-37M and the dual-pulse PL-15.
