The Hunt class is a dual-role (minehunter + minesweeper) vessel of the British Royal Navy. As one of the largest glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) warships in the world, its low magnetic signature lets it operate safely inside magnetic-influence minefields. The Type 2193 sonar can detect a football-sized object at 1,000 m; mines are then neutralized with the SeaFox disposal drone and the REMUS 300 UUV. The fleet is being handed over to autonomous systems between 2029 and 2031; in early 2026 the last Gulf-based vessel (HMS Middleton) returned home.

The Hunt is not a 'weapon' but a force-multiplier / enabler: it clears sea lanes and harbour approaches of mines. Its range and effect scores are low not against a direct-strike benchmark, but relative to its contribution in the niche mine-disposal role; its real value is defensive and indirect. The low-magnetic GRP hull is the class's most enduring technical advantage.
