The B-1B Lancer ("Bone") is the US Air Force's fastest bomber; its variable-geometry swing-wing design pairs a supersonic dash with a large internal weapons load. After its nuclear role was withdrawn in 1994 it was reborn as the world's most powerful conventional standoff carrier, able to haul 24-36 LRASM/JASSM cruise missiles. It is not a true stealth aircraft, so its survivability against modern air defenses is limited.

The B-1B's core limit is that it is not truly stealthy: against modern integrated air defenses (S-400/HQ-9 class) its survivability is low, which is why its role has shifted to that of a stand-off missile (LRASM/JASSM) carrier. The fleet is aging, with low readiness rates and high maintenance costs; it is a bridge platform until the B-21 arrives. It has no nuclear role (conventional-only since 1994).
